From London we joined a Topdeck tour going to Rome. The above map shows the route and details of the journey. This post is going to be more about my Topdeck experience than about my experience of the countries (they will come).

I absolutely loved my Topdeck experience and would highly recommend it to people. I love doing things in big groups and having lots of people around so this was perfect for me. It seemed that the majority of the group were in their early 20s and everyone was really friendly; we all clicked and bonded very quickly. Besides age, we all had a love and desire to travel in common. The majority of the group seemed to be from Australia with the other members coming from New Zealand, Korea, the UK and Canada. Another good thing about being in the big group was there was always someone that wanted to do what you felt like doing, so you were always guaranteed a buddy.

After having to arrange everything from transport to meals in London it was nice not having to worry about any of that for awhile. Another thing I liked about Topdeck was that for every city we would be given a tour, so we could get our bearings and get an idea of what we would like to explore further, and then a totally free day to do whatever we wanted. I've heard of some people who have gone on tours were it was just so jammed packed with stuff and there isn't much freedom. Plus it ended up feeling they were just carted around from one attraction to another without really experiencing anything, this wasn't the case with Topdeck.

All in all I would recommend doing a tour but doing it in combination with your own travelling in the cities you really want to explore (like for example I really wish I had more than one day in Paris).

London

So I just got back from the most amazing trip around Europe and London. But I shall start from the beginning- at London....

I fell in love with this city fast; the style and nature of the people, the buildings and just the general vibe of the city- stylish with a grungy edge. Plus the shopping, oh my the shopping, but shall get on to that later. We (I travelled with my highschool bestie B, you can read her travel blog here) were very blessed with the weather- apparently it was a very mild winter this year and thus we were treated with sunshine and only two rainy days during our entire trip. We stayed in a little apartment in Hammersmith, which was a short walk from the underground station, a Marks & Spencer and various bars and cafes. We spent a little under a week in London and here are some of the highlights:

Kensington Palace and The Orangery
This was the first attraction we visited, the former home of Princess Diana. It was closed to the public the day we went but you could still take snaps from the outside. The Orangery was, however, open; a beautiful (but expensive) place where you can have high tea. We both treated ourselves to a slice of cake and juice whilst soaking in the posh atmosphere.

Piccadilly Circus
I had no idea what Piccadilly Circus looked like so when I stepped out from the underground (if you plan on using the underground a bit, get yourself an Oyster Card makes travel much easier and cheaper) I was caught by surprise, and my love for the city grew. It was like New York's Times Square except with red double deckers driving around.

Hop On- Hop Off Tour
A ticket costs us £26 each, at the time they were running a promotion which meant the ticket was valid for two days. I would recommend doing this; it takes you around to all the major sites (e.g. Big Ben, London Eye) and includes a River Cruise Tour too. Additionally, being able to hop on and off as you please means its an easy way to get around the city. And just a touristy perk it means you can tick off riding a red double decker bus off the list.

Westmister Abbey
Entry was £16. This was a surreal tour, there are so many tombs in there that its hard to imagine its real. Plus it was also weird to be standing where the royal wedding took place, just thinking about the emotions and the buzz that would have been felt here just last April.

Madame Tussauds
I have mixed feelings recommending this one- it was a lot of fun muking around and taking pictures but it is pretty expensive (£30) and we waited for like an hour in the line (and we are travelling during off peak). There are few additional attractions on top of the celeb figures such as a ride that takes you through London's history and short 4D film.

B@1 Soho
This is going to sound like a total plug but out of all the bars/pubs we went to this was by far my favourite. The bartenders are so nice and introduce themselves to you as you get served and try their hardest to learn your names. When we later asked one of the bartenders why they do that he stated "Its just polite". Maybe we were lucky or visited on a good night but the whole vibe of the place was very friendly- both the staff and fellow patrons. We spent our first night there getting insight of what to do and see from some patrons, tips that they think may not be covered in tour guides. The second night we visited it was like we were visiting friends. If you are looking for a place to go at night I highly recommend going here (and while you are here try the Irish Disco Biscuit- recommended to us by some patrons).

Camden Markets plus other shopping
Camden Markets were awesome, an eclectic mix of stores and stalls. You can find new stuff, retro and vintage pieces, and punk and alternative clothing. I recommend this to shopaholics that have a streak of quirkyness or are slightly experimental in their style. Also don't be afraid to haggle. I must share the biggest bargain I found- a ski jacket that cost me only £3! It came in so handy whilst I was travelling through the Swiss Alps (just casually drop that in their like its whatevs for me to travel through the Alps).
H&M- I love love. Hurry up and come to Australia. Cheap and trendy- plus we came during sales so extra cheap. Another cheap store was Primark- when we visited here my suitcase was beyond full so going here was a little painful cause I had to pass on soo many bargains.

So with the busy-ness of finishing my undergraduate degree and re-establishing a neglected social life blogging came to a halt but I'm back with exciting plans- travel plans! Here is a rough itinerary outlining where in the world I will be in the next two months:

January 11: Paris, France

January 13: Lauterbrunnen, Switerland

January 15: Florence, Italy

January 17-23: Rome, Italy

January 24: Back Home a.k.a Sydney

Fashion Spotlight: Colour Blocking

I love love the colour blocking trend that is coming in for Summer- so bright and fun. Walking through the stores today seeing all the different brightly coloured tops, skirts, dresses and shorts got me buzzed for Summer. However, as a girl who over the past few years, especially over the winter, has tended to favour the blacks, whites and grey (and a splash of red for colour) this trend is a little new for me. So this post is for those like me- keen to try the trend but in need of a little inspiration. My favourite out of the below looks is Stephanie Pratt's- bright orange and pink work really well together and I like the cut of the top.

Fashion Spotlight: The 1920s

I have never watched a series of Underbelly (my loss I have heard) but am kinda wanting to watch the newest series, Razor. Want to know why? Based on the clothes in the ad I'm guessing its set in the 1920s and boy what lovely clothes the ad features (and the accompanying Adele song doesn't do any harm either). I've included a few shots below.

I love the fashion from the 1920s-so glamorous. We actually saw a little influence of the 1920s in some of the winter hats that were in style this season (and of course those 1970s inspired floppy hats). About a month ago I was lucky enough to dress up in 1920s glam because my friend's 21st theme was Speakeasy: Prohibition Party. Would have loved to gone all out glam but money and time did limit me nevetheless thoroughly enjoyed wearing my DIY flapper dress, long pearls, headpiece (from Diva for $5!), dark eye make-up and red lips. Must say its pretty easy to inject a bit of 1920s glam into your regular wear whether it be with the addition of a red lip or a cute headpiece- and I'm predicting once Razor hits our screen we will be wanting to more!

A Post About Nails

This past year I have noticed a rising trend in nail art, gone were the days where french tips were fancy but instead miniature artworks were the way to go. My friend Vivian always has the cutest nails which she does herself (The image about is taken from her nail blog Pictures of mah nails did) which I have admired over the year but never been game to attempt myself. However a few days ago I saw an image of the bee nails below and I thought that doesn't look too hard to recreate.

Now my nail polish collection is very limited (black, white, red and various shades of pink) so I went into Gloss (cheapie nail polish in lots of different colours) and picked up a bottle of yellow nailpolish but then at the last minute decided to ditch the bee idea and make up my own design so bought a bottle of peppermint green nailpolish and off I went home inspired. I knew painting designs on nails would be hard but even with my simple design I struggled (especially painting my right hand!) and first started off using a toothpick to do the pink but then swapped it and used this tiny brush that came in a set of 12 make up brushes (probably intended for the application of eye makeup). Pictured below is my final result, definitely not perfect but pretty happy for my first go.

Bargain Hunter: Op Shops in Sydney

So been less frequent with the blogging lately and probably will not be able to blog everyweek- getting into the deep end of my uni degree but had to post about my op shopping experience. Have to admit I was a little wary about wearing used clothes not knowing its "past" but reading other people's blogs and seeing their great finds I was definitely curious! Through word of mouth I heard of two good ones in Sydney: one on Oxford St and one in Summer Hill, here are my reviews of both:

Vinnies Paddington, 292 Oxford Street PADDINGTON, NSW

Word on the street is that this is the place to get designer gear that the rich kids don't want anymore in good condition on the cheap. So my friend and I got off the train at Bondi Junction and were pretty much walking blind down Oxford St- this was a stupid plan and we walked for ages until finally getting on a bus- my advice is get a bus down there.The store is two levels and although I didn't find Chanel for $10 there was brands like Country Road and Sportsgirl in great condition. As for the pricing its not as cheap as regular op shops as it is fairly good stuff in good condition, so for example I found a Country Road skirt for $20- if you are looking at it from the perspective that its a used skirt from an Op shop not a great bargain but for a Country Road skirt you have a good deal. In terms of finding unique vintage buys I didn't find a great range on the occasion I went but I did buy the bag pictured below (which I think was $15-20). Overall, I think if your hoping for dirt cheap unique buys go somewhere else but if you want higher end brands on the cheap then have a visit.

Anglicare Summer Hill, 105 Carlton Crescent SUMMER HILL, NSW

A few years ago my friends bought a Gucci bag from here for some ridiculously cheap price- this sparked my interest and I finally made the trip there a few weeks ago. Getting there is pretty easy, just a five minute walk from Summer Hill station. So how it works is that clothes are sold by the kilo, $8 for the first kilo and then it varies from weights upwards. Now the kilo only applies to clothes which we did not know when we went to pay so that means it does not include books, knick knacks, shoes, belts etc. The reason its so cheap is that this is the sorting centre so everything is just in big tubs and you have to dig around. And some things are in really bad condition- so examine your items carefully before you buy as they may be a stain, rip etc. My tip for shopping here is bring a big shopping bag with you and as you're sorting put anything with potential into it and then sort what you want and don't want at the end. I found a few goodies while there and we did find a few hilarious 80s/90s formal dresses-so if you need a costume for a retro party def go here. There is also a side room where things have been sorted and priced individually but I found it pretty pricey (but was stuff like furs and leather). I think this store is maybe not the best for op shopping newbies but I would recommend it for anyone with sewing abilities, those a little creative with their style and hardcore bargain hunters.

The Great Race: Amazing Challenge

Last Sunday I took part in The Great Race- which is pretty much the show Amazing Race on a smaller scale and set in Sydney. I'm a fan of the show and think it would be so amazing to be part of it so was pretty excited when my friend sent through an email seeing if I was interested in taking part. This is not a one off race by the way it is run throughout the year by a group adventure company. The race involves racing around China Town, Sydney CBD and around the Harbour Foreshore doing a variety of challenges and tasks competing against a number of other teams. I don't want to give too much away in case you are thinking of doing it but it was so so much fun and I would totally recommend doing it. Not only is it a fun activity to do with your friends but also, as I discovered when I was running around ,a great way to be reminded of what a beautiful city Sydney is. I couldn't help but snap a few pictures of some of the stunning sights:

Fashion Rant: Where is the class?

I haven't had a rant for awhile but reading Justine's rant in her letter from the editor the latest issue of Shop til you drop has inspired me. I think the opening line of the letter illustrates the general theme of the letter:

"Obviously I'm getting old because I still think the underside of your bum cheeks

are for wearing inside your pants rather than out of them"

That whole letter had me hooked and in total agreement. I am only 21 but wonder if I'm the prudish nana when I get shocked everytime I see a girl wearing "cheeky" shorts. I turned a blind eye when I saw it at festivals or in beach towns- its whole different level of class there but at uni or at the shops seriously I don't want to see that. Then there was that other look that was going around this summer- wearing shorts with the front zipper or buttons undone, that look didn't really make sense at the beach and makes a whole lot less off the beach. And every week you'll see a girl trying to pull off a not oversized enough shirt or sweater as a dress. Lets add to that the girls who wear thick stockings or sheer leggings as pants. You have to wonder what goes through their heads as they walk out the door? Do they know it looks skanky- and if so do they think that skanky=hot?
Like Justine mentioned in her letter the skank look is a look that refuses to die. There have been a few signs that it may be on the outs for example when Gossip Girl came out Blair's wadrobe was coveted by many of its viewers and her look is all class and sophistication. And when maxi dresses and maxi skirts came into fashion you would have thought that would be the end of belts as skirts but no. Clearly this is a hot issue because after I started writing this post I noticed a big article in today's Sunday paper about teenage girls and their shocking lack of dress. So what do you guys think do girls need more class or should we accept that its just a different sense of style?

On Sunday I went to Fashion Weekend. The centre of the event is shopping and there were so many bargains this year, much more than last year thus I went home with much more than last year. In addition to the shopping you can also watch the runway- featuring the new collections of numerous designers (many of the collections that were on the runway at RAWF last week). Fashions on the field: Katy Perry "California Dreams" Tour Sydney

Last night I went to see Katy Perry- which was amazing. The performances themselves were great but I think what really made it stand out was her interaction with the audience- pulling them up on stage, kissing them, playing games etc. Plus she proved she has talent when she did acoustic covers of other artists' songs. Anyway, thought I'd share some of the images from last night. There were many costume changes throughout the concert-during one of the songs she made several changes in seconds.

The greatly awaited dress has been revealed. Modest yet gorgeous. Love the lace and the neckline. The dress is designed by Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen.

And the other anticipated outfit, for me at least, was Victoria's. Designed by her, was disappointing- tres sack-like.

Can't believe I forgot to include Julia when I originally posted this. Her fashion sense has been under fire this week. She is wearing a collection of Australian designers- Anthea Crawford skirt, Carla Zampatti camisole, Aurelio Costarella jacket. You know what I don't mind this outfit, like the navy. Not really loving the jacket with the outfit but still good job Julia.

Fashions on the field: Coachella 2011

Seeing the line up for Coachella a couple of months ago made me so jealous that we don't have a similar equivalent. Plus it appears to be a star studded affair. Although not really a place of great fashion it is interesting to see what the celebrities are wearing.

Kelly Osborne: I'm always a fan of a blue polka dot dress and this is no exception. Totally cute retro outfit although the shoes and socks kind of throws the look a little. I would of paired it with some red flats.

Camilla Belle: I think this is a perfect festival outfit- simple and comfortable but still looks stylish.

Vanessa Hudgens: I'm usually a fan of her style but don't like any part of this outfit- the 90s denims, the ugly crochet top and necklace. It looks like she was trying too hard to go for that hippie carefree look. That being said the diamontees or whatever they are under her eyes are fun.

Katy Perry: This look does not fit at all at a music festival. From the neck up- cute festival vibe and then the dress kills it.

Diane Kruger: Really loving the maxi skirt right now and she rocks this on trend piece perfectly.

Bargain Hunter: Designer Warehouse Sale Strategy

Last week my cousin and I went to a designer warehouse sale in the city, we arrived around 11am and took our time browsing around, taking a good look at anything of interest before choosing it. As we were shopping we noticed two girls in the corner of the room with a huge pile of clothing trying on some of the cutest items. And we weren't the only ones to notice, with a lot of shoppers hanging around their area in hopes of grabbing their rejects, and no doubt like us they were also wondering how these two girls got such good stuff. Curious, I did make a remark about their great finds and one of the girls told me you just have to grab a huge pile and look through it after, inspired by that my cousin and I devised our own strategy which has inspired this post. Here are my tips:

Rather than just grabbing a random pile or slowly browsing and I would advise that as you through the items on sale grab anything with potential. After you have gone through everyone on sale find yourself a space and then go through your items. Check if the zips are working, that there are no swatches of fabric cut out (these are some of the most common defects I find) etc.
Have an idea of how much you want to spend- using this as your guide create mini piles from your huge pile- The No Pile, The Maybe Pile, and The Def Yes Pile. Work out how much your def pile costs all together, if over your budget cull if not then you can take stuff from your maybe pile.
Keep in mind if you'll actually wear the item e.g. does it go with anything else you own or do you have an occasion to wear it.
The time you get to the sale can be important. If you have a particular item/s in mind then go as close to when the sale opens are you can-the earlier the better. But if you just want bargains then going towards the end of the sale is best- as a lot of designers/stores tend to further slash their prices.
Be nice. It can get a little every girl for herself sometimes but if someone comments on an item you found or is eying it appreciatively and you know there were some others left tell them where they can find it.

The pair I got came in for just under $100 which I think is quite a bargain for a pair of jeans from a well known label and their whole line is quite affordable with all the items coming in for under $120. Hurley is normally associated with sport and surfing but the jeans I got can easily be worn in either a casual day scenario or for going out at night. I chose to style the jeans somewhere in between, inspired by an outfit I saw in Gossip Girl worn by Vanessa (Season 3).

What does beach fashion mean to you? This was the question posed to me by 2threads. For me the beach is synonymous with holidays and summer, so immediately the thoughts chill, relax and fun came to mind. And I think those are the words you should apply to beach fashion. The first part of beach fashion is what you wear to and from the beach, whatever cover up you wear it should be easy to put and more importantly take off as soon as you see the tempting water- my advice is either a cute loose summer dress or shorts/skirt and a cute tee. And for in between arriving and leaving a nice kaftan. And the best shoes would be something like thongs (and the worst would be heels, the beach is definitely not the place for them). I also have been thoroughly warned by those ads that tell you "tanning is skin sells in trauma" so always throw on a cute fedora, sunnies and sunscreen- plus the kaftan worn between swims also helps. Finally I shall move on the centerpiece of beach fashion: the swimmers. So many designs out there, the latest one I bought was a blue polka dot bikini similar to the one sported by Taylor Swift, but I think the most important thing when it comes to swimmers is being comfortable in it. No point wearing a teeny tini bikini if your spending the whole time anxious about popping out of it or being body conscious. So soak up the warm weather as much as you can before winter hits again.

Award season is well and truly upon us. Lots of elegance this year at the carpet: think trains and blacks and whites. Here are some of are some of the looks from this year's Golden Globes

Angelina Jolie: This dress just reminds me of bad 80s fashion although I do think green is a nice colour on her then again what colour doesn't work on her

Christina Aguilera: I personally don't like fishtail dresses but I love this dress from the knee up

Scarlett Johansson: Such a pretty dress! Love everything; the sleeves, the colour and the cut. Her tattoo slightly kills the elegance of the outfit but what can you do.

Megan Fox: Although I am not a Megan Fox fan I have to admit that I really like her dress, especially the top detail.

Nicole Kidman: Another pretty dress, although it does wash her out a little.

Dianna Agron: I've heard this dress described as blah but its one of my favourites from the night, she looks divine.

Olivia Wilde: Such a fun attention stealing gown! The only thing I think that kills the outfit is the hair, doesn't really match the dress.

Amber Riley: Another sequined dress, quite a popular choice this year (along with cream gowns) but this was one of my favourites.

Another awards show, not really sure what this one's even about but its got a red carpet so that is all I need to know.

Ashely Tisdale:Wearing a Farah Angsana dress. Minus the pout I'm liking the look, although I think if her hair were down it would make the boho look even better.
Selena Gomez: I like Selena's style always cute and girly although she looks a little tired in this picture. Opposite advice from what I'd give Ashely but an up do would have made her look more refreshed.
Taylor Swift: Sweet was the first word that came to mind when I saw her in this J Mendel peach number. Although it doesn't really stand out from her usual red carpet looks, she seems to always go for a similar look that being said she pretty much owns the formal curled up do- who doesn't covet that style?
Emma Roberts: I'm not really into ruffle dresses but despite this I really like her look, she looks like a total sophisticate.

The Kardashian Sisters: So I've only recently started watching Keeping Up With The Kardashians, and am only up to Season 1 so was surprised at how different Kylie and Kendall look! I like the black and white number Kylie is wearing, a cute dress nothing stunning design wise but a perfect dress for a girl her age. Kendall looks like a total model in the making. Kim looks her usual stunner self. I like the flowing dress Khloe is wearing and I like her hair this colour. Not so much a fan of Kourtney's look though- not really feeling the dress and think the tan and hair could have been a little less.

Fashion Spotlight: 2010

Cannot believe 2010 is nearing an end, feels like just a month ago I was in the city NYE nervously counting down as I knew 2010 would not be fun academically but looking back its been a pretty good year; had one of the best summer holidays including a beach getaway, an amazing one month holiday in Sri Lanka and all of that academic work paid off because I got into honours. But enough about me, let's take a look back at some of the biggest fashion trends of 2010.

Denim
Denim never really goes out of style and is usually a staple but there was definitely more of a spotlight on it in 2010, and to the shock (and horror to some I'm sure) of many double denim came back.

Leather

Another blast from the past was leather. There was the more common leather (or pleather) jackets and for those more adventurous leather pants, shorts, skirts and dresses.

Maxi Skirt

Kind of a follow on from last year's maxi dress (I say last year but it was definitely being rocked in 2010 as well). The best thing about the maxi skirt is that you could transform your maxi dress into one by simply throwing on a tee.

Modern Military

This was quite a popular trend in 2010, probably because it was pretty easy to incorporate into your existing wardrobe. You could either play it safe by just playing around with khaki or get a little experimental with embellishments.

No Pants

We can thank Lady Gaga for this trend, luckily it seems to restricted to those of celebrity status- although you never know what 2011 may bring!

Been lacking a little blog inspiration lately but inspiration struck when watching old episodes of Gossip Girl- I bring you my Gossip Girl inspired shoot. Thanks to my cousin A and sister N for helping out. I based each of us loosely on one of the girls from the show, working with what was already in my wardrobe. I've based my own look on Serena and am wearing a blue Grace and Hart gown (a few sizes too large I think!). My cousin is based on Blair and wearing a Mr K dress. Finally my sister has been styled with Jenny in mind wearing a Forever 21 mini dress over a black singlet and tights.

Fashion Spotlight: Summer Music Festivals 2

My last post on summer music festival fashion is one of my most popular posts to date so I thought I'd do another with more inspiration.

I totally love this outfit below, so boho summer. And pretty easy to recreate: a pair of cut off shorts add a loose white tank and a fringed vest. And although I do love the floppy hat I probably wouldn't wear it to a festival, I could see it getting in peoples' way or getting lost. Plus the heeled boot would also have to go.

Rachel and Whitney both have a pretty simple outfits: cute shorts, cool top and sunnies, yet it is not only stylish but will also keep them cool and comfy through the long day. Although I would advise wearing enclosed shoes rather than sandals, unless you like the feeling of feet covered in beer and dirt.

This year when I went to Future Music Festival, the weather was predicted to be rainy and cool- it ended up being a scorching hot day and I suffered in my long wet look leggings and envied those in shorts. Looking at Dita's outfit just reminds me of that. That being said the year before, when I went to Good Vibrations, it rained and was freezing and I felt quite smug when I saw girls in bikinis (why do people wear them to festivals! its not the beach) and shorts. So the moral of that story is be as weather wise as you can and let the weather be a priority in deciding your outfit, plus always pack a poncho.

Personal Exploration: Shopping Ethically

Typically when we are shopping and spot something we like we consider things like the price and whether we would actually wear it. I'll admit what conditions the clothes were made doesn't really enter my mind when buying from stores in Australia. Recently I was emailed by Sarah from Oxfam Australia about ethical issues in fashion and workers rights. After having a look at their site it obvious what conditions the clothes we buy should be something we consider. As consumers in the west the fashion industry is displayed as this glamorous thing, however for those working in developing countries it is anything but, with workers being paid minimal amount (barely enough to support themselves and their family) whilst working long hours in harsh environments. I think the thing is not that we don't care but they we don't know, we don't know if we are buying something that started off in a sweatshop or not. So how can we buy more ethically?

If your clothes carries an ECA (ethical clothing australia) label it means that the garment was manufactured in Australia under acceptable conditions. ECA has a list of accredited Australian garment manufacturers, from high end fashion to casual streetwear labels.
Send your sportswear reciepts to Oxfam Australia (Labour Rights Oxfam Australia,
P.O. Box 1711 Strawberry Hills NSW 2012) with a note attached saying that you wish to buy clothes and shoes made under decent conditions, Oxfam can then use this as evidence that consumers are concerned and thus as pressure for the big brands to respect workers rights.

From looking the site I think we are a little limited in buying ethically because before we can the the big companies need to introduce better working conditions, which I was actually surprised to learn that a lot don't, and the best way to achieve this was mentioned in the second point, that is as consumers we have to make it known that we are concerned and we want to shop ethically thereby pressuring the companies to raise the standards of their working conditions.

Personal exploration: Getting Ready to Go Out Moment

Last Friday I got an email from the lovely fashionable folks at 2threads who have teamed up with Smirnoff requesting a post about my "getting ready to go out moment", pretty much a post about the inspirations and the preparation that goes into getting ready to go out. The timing was perfect because the very next day was an event that many of my friends and I having been looking forward to- the first of our school's friend to get married. The week leading to the big day has been full of texting and facebook messaging about how exciting it all was and of course what everyone was wearing. I'm definitely not of those girl's who are doing a last minute shop or frantic search of their wardrobe the day before rather the moment I receive news of a big event my minds runs through my wardrobe if nothing seems appropriate I do a shop hoping for inspiration to strike. But luckily for this specific event my mental search was successful when I remembered a dress I got about a year ago that is probably to formal for most occasions but perfect for a wedding. With the "base" of the outfit set I then play around with accessories closer to the date or on the day of. I have an Olga Berg bag that goes well with the dress which also features gold so the jewelery and shoes I chose took cue from that. Because I have bipolar hair I can't really plan on what to do until the day and see what works. Anyway this was the final result:

Just want to end the post with a bit of DIY beauty, the night before the wedding I made my own exfolaite which left my legs feeling super soft. I mixed a light moisturiser with sugar (you can also use salt), you can use whatever ratio you want depending on how course you want it to be but I mixed mine about 50/50 and then rub into your legs in a circular motion then wash off. Ok enough about me because who really cares about the guests at a wedding- its all about the happy couple, congrats Jess and Tom.

Bargain Hunter: How to Spot a Designer Knock-Off

About a month ago my friend and I went op shop shopping- my first ever time. I know vintage has been all the rage for the past few years but I'm still a little weird about wearing clothes worn by others but I was motivated by the idea of finding unique items or a high class designer item for a fraction of the price. So searching around it seemed that St Vincent de Paul on Oxford St in Paddington was the place to hit (plus it is just a short bus ride away from Bondi Junction Westfield). Although I didn't find a Chanel bag for $10 my friend did spot a "Louis Vuitton" bag. We stood at the register for a good five minutes analysing the pattern, the stitching and the zip trying to figure out if it was real or just a really good knock off, eventually she put it back because we couldn't decide. So the point of that story was to introduce the topic of today's post- how tell if its the real deal or a knock off when you're buying second hand. Here are some good tips I found:

An obvious sign is the quality if its the real deal it won't be made of cheap material. Although there are some pretty good knock offs out there that are made of real leather, to tell these apart the knock offs are typically very stiff and sometimes the leather is uneven.
Take a look at the stitching, designer labels won't have crooked stitching. A good tip is to examine the stitching in less visible areas such as the pockets.
Knowing where the label is made will help you out e.g. An french label but the jacket says made in China- good indicator that it is fake.
Play close attention to the logo and signatures- if its uneven, upside down, backwards or has lettering missing it can help identify a fake. Another tip is regards is examining logo, it should continue on the sides not be cut in half.
If you are buying from it ebay check if comes with the authenticity certificate, if the seller is the original owner they may have kept it. (Obviously only the high end labels come with a certificate if its Country Road bag for example don't expect anything).
Even armed with all of this it can still be hard to tell the difference, if you are desperate to know your best bet is to compare it to the real thing.

Time again to celebrate Australian music, too be honest the only thing I was interested in was the red carpet- don't even know who is nominated really, the ARIAs seem to always seem to coincide with end of semester hectic-ness so always to stressed to even notice. Anyway on to the looks.

Jessica Mauboy: Wearing Toni Maticevski. I like the colours but not feeling the spider shoulder thing, although I guess that is what's supposed to be the feature of the outfit.

Carmen Electra: I don't why I expected her outfit to be bad but this is cute and hot shoes (Louboutins)

Lara Bingle: It's alright, a little boring. But maybe she is trying to prove she is mature post Michael Clarke.

Isabel Lucas: Maybe the sandals aren't really red carpet worthy but I love her bohemian look.

Bargain Hunter: Button N Thread Dresses for under $80

Jennifer Hawkins: The dress is nice but nothing special, the dresses she wore in the Myer ads were prettier. And not feeling the clutch, necklace or cat ears. Hair is fab though.

Sophie Monk: She looks like she is off to a music festival not a class event like the races, the dress and headband are way to casual.

Ruby Rose: Come on people! This is the big race of the year, dress up some more. However on a different occasion love the tights.

Sonia Kruger: This is my favourite, love it- totally classy and how you should dress to the races

Rachel Finch: A little bit too matchy matchy and could of benefited with some contrasted but I still like it.

Frocktober: The Last Week

Finished off my final week of Frocktober yesterday so this will be my final post about Frocktober and your final chance to donate. You have her night event look which is polished and on trend, look at the first pic: red lips, two toned hair, a sharp blazer and the it bag = fab. Then you have her ever so cool street style, take the second picture for example; denim shorts and a white basic tee - not too exciting but by her adding the strappy sandals, side strap bag, sunnies, the cute hat and bham! effortless but tres cool summer look. Oh and if you're still trying to think of something she's done recently, she was in the super confusing story line in New York, I Love You.

In case you haven't heard, the Aussie dollar is doing pretty well for itself. As I write this one Australian dollar will get you 96 American cents, so close! As the dollar soars many people's thoughts go to online shopping and the bargains that can be had (well mine certainly did!). So now let me share with you the story of my great bargain adventure.One humble day as I logged on to twitter I noted a tweet by @SalesGuide regarding the dollar and shopping on Forever21, immediately I went on to Forever21's site. Although I had heard of Forever21 I never really knew much about it as we don't have it here but as I browsed the site I was shocked. Dresses for $13, tops for $5, earring and headbands for $1.50! And its not like they were cheap but fugly, no they were super cute and on trend. But then my heart broke as I saw the shipping was like $35 to Australia. Devastated I closed the browser although I couldn't get the bargains out of my mind. Luckily I had shared my heart ache via tweet with SalesGuide, and they responded by suggesting I bulk order with friends and split the shipping costs. Further advice was given by a school friend of mine via Facebook (gotta love social networking sites) about ordering through hopshopgo.com, using this the shipping was even less. I found a friend with a shared love of fashion (same friend who was with me on my travels in Sri Lanka) and together we shopped up a storm. Our order has not yet arrived but I'm sure once it does we will live happily (and fashionably) ever after. The End.

Fashions on the field: Brownlow Medal

The Brownlow is a night to celebrate AFL but the spotlight shines just as brightly on the WAGs and their fashions as it does on the players. Usually the decision of what is worn on the big night appears to be based on what reveals the most flesh than style but this year there were surprisingly more demure classic dresses than shockers.

Jacinta Jellet: Even though the white Alex Perry dress is fairly simple I really like it, fits her well.
Lucy: First glance at this dress and it is easily recognised as a Josh Goot number but a little casual for such an event don't you think?
Lauren Phillips: I don't know if it is the picture but the bottom of the dress seems a little unflattering but other than that I like the cut of the top, the hair and the necklace

Rebecca Twigley: I love it until it gets to the bottom the dress, not a fan of ruffles.
Kate Chivers: This was my favourite from the night, so it was a shame I couldn't find a better picture but the dress is beautiful
Byrnne Edelsten: How could I write this post without featuring her, her outfit was the most eagerly anticipated and she didn't dissappoint wearing a very "Brynne" dress with a detachable skirt.

House in Tillford: Take Me to Formal?

When it came to my year 12 formal time I decided I would get my dress made and I picked this Grecian number based on a dress by Matthew Williamson (I only discovered he was the designer recently and also learnt that he did some stuff for Gossip Girl) that I saw on Isla Fisher, and later discovered was also worn by Keira Knightly and Tara Reid (classy). After my formal I got the dress cut to make it more wearable but actually haven't worn it since, after wearing it for this post I have fallen back in love with it and can't wait for an event that I will be able to wear it to. Fashion Rant: I Just Wanna Blog, Not Take Over the World

What is with all the fashion blogger haters out there? For every person that is embracing the blogger another is putting them down. I just read an article that Sassybella tweeted from the Australian Finacial Review about fashion bloggers and thought it would be a great topic for a rant. The article looks at the presence of bloggers, designers attitudes towards them and finally finishes with fashion editors attitudes towards them (to read the article click here). What really inspired the need to rant was Kirstie Clements's ( a.k.a editor in chief of Australian Vogue) quote about bloggers; " ...bloggers haven't quite broken into the serious side of fashion yet...It's easy to look at a dress on the catwalk and say "Oh, how pretty". That's simply a opinion it's not power". Her opinion is her opinion, fair enough but it kind of implies an idea that fashion bloggers have, the illusions of graduer we hold. I can't speak for other fashion bloggers but I don't think I'm expert in fashion, my future career will more likely be in the field of Psychology than fashion, so the comments made by editors in the article about the qualifications of fashion bloggers are valid in regards to me. But I am totally aware what I write on my blog is my opinion, but that is why I blog; to express my opinion about things fashion. And isn't that why a lot of bloggers blog, it is a means for them to explore fashion and express their thoughts and opinions. Which brings me to the idea of bloggers and power. Now I am in no way saying that I have any kind of power as a fashion blogger, but I do have power as a consumer. Majority of the consumers out there don't have a degree in fashion or a "deep understanding of all aspects of the fashion industry" (which Kirstie highlights as a fault of bloggers). But this is exactly why bloggers have power, we are the ordinary consumers of fashion. We decide what we like and what we buy, sure magazines like Vogue may dictate the trends but ultimately we decide what we buy and where is all of this reflected? On our fashion blogs! End of rant.

Although we aren't quite at the end of the year it is only weeks away until Year 12s across that nation finish up highschool which means graduations, final exams and of course formal. I originally wanted to do a bargain hunter piece on formal fashion along the lines of formal wear under $100 but that proved to be a little challenging. The best bargain you could get, I would say, is getting your dress made, that is what I did when I was in Year 12. By getting it made you get the exact design you want for much cheaper. So when my friend M begged me to do a post on Elie Saab I thought this could work because if you are looking for some inspiration for dress ideas Elie Saab has some gorgeous designs, designs that are red carpet favourites.

Nuwara Eliya, Sri Lanka

Little England is how guide books and tourism sites describe Nuwara Eliya, if you go thinking this; envisioning old english architecture as I did you may be a little disappointed. Driving into the town it seemed like any Sri Lankan town, with one exception: the cold which is a contrast to the humid, hot weather you experience anywhere else in Sri Lanka. As we drove up the hills (which is a pretty stunning view as you look down at the patterned tea fields, and may even spot a tea picker) I began to wonder if it was just the weather that was like little England but as we reached our hotel, Grand Hotel, and as you drive further up you can see the influences in the architecture.

Before we went to the hotel we stopped by Mackwoods Tea Estate for a guided tour around the tea factory and learnt the process of how tea is made from bud to bag. After the tour we browsed in the little store and had some tea and cake at the cafe (well I posed for pictures pretending to drink tea as I don't actually like the taste of tea). We then headed to our hotel, Grand Hotel. Let me tell you the name is definitely appropriate. It's like stepping into the Titanic, total luxury with old glamour feel. And the dinner buffet was so impressive, by far the best that we've seen on our stay. The only down side of our stay was the noise, when we checked in there was this irritating noise which after investigating discovered was the launder-mat, they did offer to change our room and did apologise profusely and kept checking on us so they did handle it well. But that wasn't the only noise problem we had, the next morning at 5am we were awoken by the noise of children shouting and running up and down the hallways which they continued to do until we gave up and got out of bed at 6, not the hotels fault though but still irritates me when I think about it.

I actually don't know if there is that much to do at Nuwara Eliya, and with grey skies and cold weather you really just feeling like lounging around in the luxury. However we did visit Hakgala gardens, which at times felt like you were walking through a forest (complete with monkeys). Very green and serene and totally photographic.

House in Tillford: My first experience of a fashion festival

As you may or may not have read in my previous post I was lucky enough to win tickets to Peter Morrissey's show at Rosemount Sydney Fashion Festival, this would be the first ever fashion week-esque event that I have ever attended so it is not a suprise I was excited. After I had found a friend to go with my thoughts immediately went to what would should I wear. As I has never been to such an event before and nothing I owned was really designer so I was at a loss, but finally I decided on an outfit (blue mini dress with ruched sleeves and heeled lace up ankle boots). But even as I made my way to the city the day of the show I was still unsure; was I overdressed? Or underdressed? And why are my heels killing my legs and disabling my ability to walk?

As my friend and I entered (well i hobbled/limped into) the building where it was held it was a little surprising, from the outside it looked small and we thought we would be walking straight into runway area but instead we met a showroom with various stands, a bar and "fashion people". We wondered around taking in the sights and ended up in what I think was the VIP bar area. And although you think it would be glamorous being around all the industry people it was slightly intimidating and we thought it was obvious that we were newbie uni students so soon left to explore the showroom some more. Throughout the time we were in the showroom my friend was urging me to interview some people for the blog but I was way too intimidated, but really I did waste the opportunity especially at the Famous magazine stand. As we walked past the stand one of the ladies manning it called us over to enter their style contest they were running; all you had to do was get your picture taken (see mine below, it is a bit horrid and I look slightly scared) and that the fashion editors from the magazine were there and keen to answer questions but once again I chickened out. Actually during the show I did build courage and thought of a few questions, unfortunately when the show ends you exit a different way and don't go back into the showroom.

Soon after we entered the runway area and were seated. I was quite keen to spot some celebs and eagerly scanned the front row, I did spot Bessie Bardot, Clayton Watson (from Always Greener and Out of the Blue) and Renai Caruso (Out of the Blue). Then the room darkened and the show began, to read more about the actual collections click here. After the show we went through an exit that led us outside the building where we were met with the closest experience of paparazzi I have ever had with photographers and camera crews gathered around the exit. My friend and I were pretty excited to be asked our opinions about the Peter Morrissey show by the Today show, if you are interested in watching it you can see it here, just play the video labelled Peter Morrissey.

So on a whole my experience was pretty enjoyable and I walked away with few goodies, plus 2 seconds of airtime. For any bloggers I would advise that you don't be intimidated and do use the opportunity to interview people and snap some pictures otherwise you'll probably regret it. In terms of what to wear, I definitely didn't feel overdressed so I would say dress up but don't look like you are heading to your school formal. Oh and be 100% sure you can walk in the shoes you choose to wear!

Fashion Spotlight: Rosemount Sydney Fashion Festival Day Three

I actually wasn't planning on attending or covering RSFF this year but then I was lucky enough to win tickets from mylookbook.com.au for the Peter Morresiey show so off I trekked to the city today with my friend Hima. Reading a little bit about the show I was quite excited after learning that this was his first time back on the catwalk since closing down his business last year and that he hasn't actually shown a collection on the runway in seven years, so bit of a comeback. The line he was showing was actually his line for Big W. Before his show was Dr Rey Shapewear and Mensfit.

Instead of staying in Sigiriya we stayed in Kandy and made the drive there in the morning. We left Thilanka Hotel at around 8.30 and the drive took about 2.5 hours, would of probably been wiser to have left earlier because it was already scorching when we got there and the later you go the hotter it is and the more the rock heats up which makes climbing up the 1200 steps even more difficult. Another thing that makes the climb harder is that the steps are tiny so there were points where we were climbing up it sideways. Another thing you will notice if you go is the number of "guides" who try and attach to you along the way, in the last part of our climb the rest of my family stopped at the feet of the lion ( I wouldn't be suprised if this is a common place where people give up on the climb as I noticed a few others also doing so) so it was only B and I who continued, this is when a guide attached to us. It can be a little annoying if you wanted to do it solo but we didn't actually mind because both of us knew nothing of the history so if the guide hadn't been there everything would have been ruins rather than the king's pool, the throne, the dancing area etc. It is pretty surreal to imagine what used to be, oh and the view is pretty impressive. After giving us a tour of the top the guide explained that he was poor, needed to feed his family etc i.e. asked to be paid, unsure of how much to pay him B gave him 1000rupees, later talking to family this was apparently quite generous.

After we recovered from the climb we piled back into the van and headed towards Jetwing's hotel Vil Uyana (located close to Sigiriya) for lunch. This place is stunning, set on a man made lake with 25 hut like houses, it feels like you have stepped into a luxurious village. So gorgeous I couldn't resist snapping away, see the snaps below. And the lunch was super tasty too. Would recommend this place for couples who want to relax, want a bit of nature and luxury and are willing to spend a little extra.

In other news started reading Breakfast at Tiffany's as I have meaning to for years and I have a two finger ringer obession, this one I picked up at Diva for only $13!

We left for Kandy from Colombo and on our way we stopped by Pinnewala Elephant Orphanage which I would highly recommend visiting. Entry for foreign adults costs 2000Rs (about $20AUD), which is cheap but when you compare it to local adults seems extreme, for locals it is only 50Rs ( a bit over 50cents)! This is how is it is for most tourist places, one price for locals and another more expensive one for foreigners, which at first look seems a bit unfair but locals say Sri Lanka is a developing country and must make money from tourism and know tourists can afford those prices. They also charge you for bringing cameras, although I am not sure how much because they didn't charge us. We got in time to watch two baby elephants being bottle fed (this happens at 9.15, 13.15 and 17.00). After this we walked up a little bit and came across an amazing site; the whole herd of elephants grazing in front of the backdrop of forest. It truly was spectacular to be so close to so many elephants. We were then told to head across the street to the river where we would soon be met by the herd as they took their bath, the herd leaves for the river at 10am and 2pm and stay for about two hours. This was another amazing sight as the whole herd walks past you, and then frolics in the water, again with picturesque backdrop. Highly highly recommend going.

We then headed to our hotel in Kandy, Hotel Thilanka. We stayed here last time we visited Sri Lanka and this time we got a suite which was quite fancy. The hotel is quite nice with a range of rooms, a pool, a Ayurveda Spa and an impressive view (the hotel looks over the town) but the best thing about this hotel you won't find on their site. The best thing is being woken up to find monkeys on your balcony and around the grounds of the hotel. So lovely waking up and hand feeding them but be careful as they are wild, and also don't leave anything on the balcony as we saw them stealing clothes off the balconies of guests. Naughty behaviour aside it was fun feeding them and a lot of the monkeys had babies with them which was very cute.

One of the main attractions of Kandy is the Temple of the Tooth which we visited at night, which is when it is supposed to be the prettiest. Be warned that they are very strict about what you wear to this temple, I wore a modest sleeved white dress that came halfway down my knees and they said that was a problem and made me wrap my cardigan around my waist.

Everytime I've featured Lea Michele before from a red carpet event I've raved about her style so it is about time she gets her own feature. And the formula to her style is not that overly complicated; pretty dress + glam hair - OTT make up or accessories = Lea's style. If you look at all the images her look is all about the dress and everything else is fairly simple so the dress remains in the spotlight, and because the dresses are always cute so is her look.

I just got back from my month long holiday in Sri Lanka, I am exhausted and even though the time difference is not that huge (four and a half hours) I'm feeling a little jet lagged. I'm going to continue with my posts about my travels but will most likely spread them out and mix them in with more fashion posts. In the meantime I wanted to share some pictures, I love photography but usually am more focused on capturing people, moments and memories than sceneries and such but I was a little inspired on my holiday and by a photography book I picked up over there, so here are some of my pieces.

Sunday morning we left Colombo for beach town Galle, although it is about 100km away the drive can take up to three hours so it is best to leave early to avoid traffic. Galle is much more a tourist destination than Colombo with its beaches, ramparts and old Dutch buildings. We are staying at my Grandmother's house which is known to tourists as guest house Beach Haven, so B stood out less not being the only "sutha" (white person). As eager as I was to hit the beach the weather was less than ideal; pouring rain and rough seas. When the rain cleared we went to for a walk around Fort admiring the old Dutch buildings and later in the afternoon went exploring the ramparts.

For dinner we went to Lighthouse Hotel, which is one of the big fancy hotels in town (rooms costing around $500US a night) and is located right by the sea. There we filled our stomachs with Nasi Goreng, whilst listening to the water crash against the rocks.
The next day was another grey one but we did start the day with a chartiable act by saving two baby cows from slaughter and giving them to a farmer. It was such a sad sight because they were clearly terrified and aware of the fate so nice to know that they will be ok. And like the day before the rain once again cleared so we hit the beach. The beach we went to is not that large nor picture-eque but still a beach is a beach. Later in the afternoon we went to the Ramparts again, this time we were lucky enough to see the cliff jumpers. These are a group of guys who are famous around town and even mentioned in a few guide books who, for money, jump off a cliff into the water (narrowly missing rocks). After reading Twilight you can't help but be reminded of the wolf pack. We finished off the day with some DIY fireworks, there is less variety to choose from these days as there are no holidays and they are harder to find but we did source some and they only cost 5 rupees each!

The Zoo and Dragons in Colombo

On Saturday we ventured off to Dehiwala Zoo, although it is not typically a tourist destination it was actually o the guide on the plane that informed us of the elephant show that was an attraction in Colombo. After talking to family that live here they also alerted us to a Sea Lion show that they heard was good. The sea lion show starts at four and goes for like 15 minutes and the elephant show starts at 4.30, because we went on a Saturday it was really crowed which hindered our experience so I would recommend going on a weekday. The Sea Lion show was average, in my opinion the one at Sea World, Queensland was better but the elephant show was enjoyable with four elephants performing numerous tricks. According to locals you should give yourself like four hours to see everything although we only took two hours (mostly because we were tired and did skip the reptiles and some of the birds). The highlight of the zoo for me were the big cats such as the lions and the leopards. Its kind of insane standing that close to a lion. And unlike the Zoos in Australia the security is quite low, for example the lions cage had bars that were quite spread out and around that was a knee level fence, so if you wanted to it would be easy to pet a big cat, I suppose they rely on the fact that no one would be stupid enough to.

For dinner we went to Chinese Dragon, we went here to eat last time we came to Sri Lanka and I have been craving the fried cuttlefish since we left and it did not disappoint.

Singapore Stopover and Colombo Day One

After an eight hour flight from Sydney we arrived in Singapore for our five hour stopover, long enough to be a pain but not long enough to be worth leaving the airport. However the stop-over wasn't as bad as I had anticipated, mainly because Chengi airport is designed to be the ulimate stopover airport with theatres, shops, game and internet stations, theatres etc. We were in terminal three, on the roof there is a sunflower garden which is kinda surreal because of how the huge mechanical planes juxtopose with the bright yellow flowers. And of course we took advantage of the free internet stations, there is a fifeteen minute time limit though which was kind of annoying. B and I also browsed the many designer stores such as Mui Mui, Burberry, Prada etc. I always feels a little sheepish as I step into such stores, knowing that I can't afford it and as if the sales staff can also sense I have no intention of buying anything but nevertheless it feels so glam being around such high class fashion.

We then boarded our three hour flight to Colombo. Because we arrived at like 2am it was pretty much straight to bed, so the 2nd of July was really our first actual day. Since we were all a bit tired we decided to have a "relaxing" day, a day despite it's intentions consisted of two shopping trips, numerous three wheeler aka tuk tuk rides (of which we crammed four of us into one, so half my body was sticking out) and a hectic 1km walk through the heavy traffic which is quite an adventure considering no one here follows road rules and it is like every man for themselves. That was pretty much the first day, nothing of note but we still dived straight into Sri Lankan living.

These are last days before we fly off (this time next week I will be in Sri Lanka!), and our house looks a little crazy; suitcases everywhere as you can see. This is my outfit I will be wearing on the flight (minus a black cardigan), its comfy enough for the long flight, and pretty simple so I won't look a mess when I get off the plane. Plus its fairly transeasonal, I'll be warm here and on the flight but won't boil during our stopover in Singapore and our final destination (and I can always just take off the stockings).

I think I must have been living under a rock made of textbooks and lecture notes because I didn't even know the MTV movies awards were on today. The looks sported on the red carpet were a mix of fresh and young plus a few misses.

My Favourites:

No surprises Whitney Port is on the best dressed list, always looks great. Also like the number Scarlett Johansson wore.

Missed the Mark:

I love jumpsuits and I like shiny things but not loving Linsday Lohan's outfit. As you may have noticed in a previous post, I'm quite a fan of Vanessa Hudgen's style but I was disappointed when I saw her nightie-like dress.

Fashion Rant: A love letter to beanies and berets

In the cold days you keep my head warm and add a touch of colour to my outfit. But it has only been in these past few days that I have truly discovered my appreciation for you, humble head accessory. In this week of grey grey skies and buckets of continuous rain you have gone beyond expectations. You have let me step out of the house with a sense of ease that I otherwise would not have. As I position you upon my head in the mornings I know that I can go about day with confidence that despite the rain that you will keep my hair dry and fight along side me against the frizz monster. From the bottom of my heart, and on the behalf of other curly haired girls partial to hair straightening, we love you berets and beanies.

Guide to packing and travelling to countries such as Sri Lanka

In exactly a month from now I will be on a plane on my way to Sri Lanka for a much needed holiday! My family and I go there once every three or four years and it may be globalisation or that fact that being different ages makes me see things differently but each time I go over it feels like its different. And this time in addition to my family, my friend B is joining us. With the departure date nearing we have been discussing what to pack, and I think a lot of the questions my friend has had (such as what kind of clothes to pack) may be similar to others travelling to Sri Lanka and countries nearing so welcome to this post where I shall attempt to clear some queries.

What to wear?
Sri Lanka is fairly conservative when you compare it to westernised countries such as Australia, that being said if you are travelling there there is no need to buy yourself a whole new conservative wardrobe in fears of being judged or offending. They are pretty accepting and won't be phased by your outfits and will just pass you off as a tourist (even people like me who are Lanks and look like locals). However if you are planning on visiting religious places such as temples I would highly recommend packing at least one outfit that is sleeved and goes to your knees. Religious places are more stricter about dress. And to stick out less like a tourist I would suggest wearing lighter colours as locals do tend to wear white to temples.Other than that I would suggest clothes that are light and breatheable because it gets hot (although apparently in the Hill Country it is cooler so pack a cardigan).

What else to pack?
I have naturally curly hair and the weather over there is my worst enemy and if you have curly hair you too may find yourself fighting the frizz. I've tried straightening it over there, but five minutes later it's crazy again so my best advice is try and work with it. So pack a few products that will help you embrace the curl, such as moisturisers and mousses. If that fails then putting it up in a bun will not only help you manage but keep you cool.
Another thing I would highly highly recommend you pack is insect repellent. They have coils and mosquito nets but your best bet for when you are out and about is spray. Go buy and pack right now! Another thing in relation to health I would suggest taking is something that works for you when you get food poisoning. Just for piece of mind so you can enjoy the food and know you have something in case it doesn't agree with you.

Personally for me Blair Waldorf is to blame for my need for coloured and patterned stockings, no longer are stockings just a way to keep warm whilst wearing skirts and dresses. Bargain Hunter: Sydney Fashion Weekend

As enjoyable as the fashion shows were the heart of fashion weekend is shopping, in particular shopping for bargains. Every styled girl there (and the few boys) were looking to spend their moneys on some great finds that they can brag about. With hundreds of designers and labels selling their stock for up to 70% the event definitely drew a crowd. I only walked away with two items but if you are normally happy to buy these designers at full retail then fashion weekend would have been heaven for you, but for a poor uni student like me it was the jewelery stalls and labels like MinkPink that held the bargains.

This Stylust ring I picked up for $10, RRP $22.99. More than 50% off! My friend also picked up a ring from the same label for the same price, the picture doesn't really capture it but the silver oval is actually a tiny snake.

And I was determined to get an actual piece of clothing so knew I could trust the MinkPink stall to provide me with a bargain and I was right, picked up this cute dress that had been marked down to $30 but because it was the final hours of the sale got it for $25.

I was really excited to see these two collections from all the hype they created at RAFW (especially Camilla). Nicolla Finetti's collection made me want to party and Camilla's made me wish I was on some tropical island. I decided instead of pictures I would take videos so you get a similar experience to me.

My first ever runway did not fail to impress. My top three favourites were Lucette (unfortunately my pictures turned out horrible, as were my pictures for Shakuhachi, Little Joe Woman and Life with Bird hence their absence), This is Genevieve and Fleur Wood. All the collections were very wearable, which is a given seeing as the audience were composed of the final consumers. Sorry for the horrible quality of photos and videos!

I'm no tweeny nor a fan of HSM but I love Vanessa's style. Although I like what she wears on the red carpet what I really like is her street style. It has a sense of grungy cool to it and is fairly easy to replicate. Her signature pieces are ray ban aviators, messy hair, cute sandals, ripped jeans and stacks of bracelets.

I know my title says days three to five but techincally its only going to be up to day three, mainly because there wasn't as many big name designers today and I will be seeing Hussy in a little over a week in the flesh so will cover them then. I was eagerly anticipating seeing footage from Jayson Brunsdon's show and it did not dissappoint. The collection delivered refined, classic, beautiful designs that he is known for. Definitely one of my favourites from RAFW and left me craving for warmer weather.

Ok for these last two designers thought I would do something a little different, I found these great videos on Marie Claire which features footage from the show plus the designer and Editor Jackie discussing it, great insight.

This label I think is a little too out there for me when you see it all together although I can appreciate the artistic exploration and the show seemed very theatrical.

When I first saw this collection I wasn't a fan but its grown on me, I like the patterns and surprisingly even the brown and orange and just the overall jungle theme.

How could I not mention Alex Perry's show from yesterday!? He is like the Australian king of dresses. These are a few of my favourites from the collection, I especially like the white sleeved mini and the floor length one shoulder dress. The collection featured both minis and floor lengths gowns. The trends that can be picked out from his collection (besides nude and monochrome) are tulle, zebra print and feathers.

Nicola Finetti's show was last night so didn't make it into my Day Two coverage however cocktail dresses are my favourite items of clothing so I had to feature Nicola Finetti's latest collection. The collection did keep to the nude theme of the event, lots of golds. And how can you have collection of cocktail dresses without at least one LBD, and the label did produce a few classic ones.

Its only day two of RAWF but its becoming obvious that nudes, sheers, black and white and khaki are going to be the trends of Autumn/Winter, if you crave colour then baby blues, pinks and purples are your options. Even Camilla and Marc who I associate with dark and edgy changed their image with a new colour palette.

Fashion Spotlight: Rosemount Australian Fashion Week Day One

Its finally here! While I'm banging my head against the table trying to figure out how to attack the pile of assignments I have due this week, fashionistas from around the world are gathering to watch the spectacular shows. Day One just ended so I don't have all the shows covered but here's the wrap up so far (if you are wondering where Camille, one of the more talked about shows from the day is, I haven't included it as I will be seeing the catwalk live in two weeks so thought I'd save it until then).

After Esther's beautiful dress from last night I eagerly opened up the pictures from the shows, to be severely disappointed! Beige + brown= boring and aging, although I have read people describing the colour scheme as nude which has more fashionable connotations. Yes there was the occasional splash of blue and purple but most of it was dull and unflattering (just take a look at that white top and beige/brown skirt). That being said I did like the two last outfits pictured (is that esther's dress?).

"This collection is inspired by this blissful moment of wakefulness and of future beauty". And you can really see that coming through: the floaty fabrics, no harsh colours, futuristic prints. The best thing about this collection was that I was looking through pictures thinking I would wear that.

If Bassike's show is anything to go by my trend forecast reads a little like a Shania Twain song: Man's shirts, shorts skirt, oh and denim on denim (I still haven't warmed to that trend) and black and white stripes.

Fashions on the field: Logies 2010

The Logies is Australia's TV awards show. There is always a sense of simple with the Logies when you compare it with American awards shows such as the OSCARS and the Golden Globes, less glam. Nevertheless some of the frocks sported at this year's red carpet did bring glitz and glamour to the event. This year there was lots of neutral colours, embelishments and the label J'Aton. Here are my top picks of the evening (sorry for the low quality of pictures, truly didn't capture the dresses)

Margot Robbie: She looked amazing! I was so surprised, was expecting much worse considering what she wore last year but she looked beautiful. The dress is by Juli Grbac

Megan Gale: Stunner! Yes she would look stunning in a bag but this dress definitely complimented her and this picture does not do it justice

Livinia Nixon: Oh so glamourous, loved it. The train just tops it off

Jessica Marais: Packed to the Rafter's star looked gorgeous as expected, she'll be on the best dressed lists for sure

Esther Anderson: The colour + the draping one shoulder + minimal accessories= stunning. The dress is by Lisa Ho if you were curious.

And now for my disappointment from the night: Jennifer Hawkins. I am such a fan of her style, as you can see from past posting so I was let down by her boring outfit, yes she looked good and I love the hair but meh. Dress is Toni Maticevski, who also did Ruby Rose's dress that night

In Review: LuShae Jewelry

A few weeks ago I was approached to review the jewelry from Jewelry Art Designs, an online store. So that I was able to review it based on something more tangible than the images on the site I was able to choose an item, and it was a pretty difficult choice! I ended up choosing the ring displayed in the image. And now to the review itself:
The Good
- Like I said there is a wide range of items available and there are a lot of unique designs. Take the ring I chose for example, the basic design is quite common but the detailing on the band has made it stand out from others out there.
- Pretty affordable, and for a limited time free postage which is always good
- This is not so much on the jewelry itself but on the company, I love how they have recognised the power of bloggers and have embraced them as part of their marketing
The Bad
- I'm not sure about the other jewelry but for the ring I got the quality is more on the Diva end then the Tiffany's, that being said unlike jewelry from Diva every other girl isn't going be wearing the same thing.
Overall
If you are looking for a unique affordable piece of jewelry than I would recommend LuShae but if you are looking for something higher end then look elsewhere

Fashion Spotlight: Rosemount Australian Fashion Week

Its only days away and the online world is all a buzz with the event really embracing bloggers this year (including king of bloggers The Sartorialist who will be making his way down to Oz to attend the event). What am I talking about you ask? Rosemount Australian Fashion Week (RAFW) is an industry only event which showcases collections of some of the best designers from Australia and Asia Pacific. This year there was a little bit of a fuss made that some big name designers such as Sass & Bide had chosen not to take part, despite this I'm sure the event will be fantastic with Camilla and Marc being among the designers showing during the week. And to some exciting news; my application to be a delegate and report from the event was successful! Unfortunately RAFW coincides with my own personal hell week (i.e. the week that my major assessments for all my subjects are due) thus I will not be able to attend and it also means I may not be able to cover the event in a timely manner, if at all. But back on the brighter side I will be attending Fashion Weekend so stayed tuned for coverage.

Fashion Rant: Fur isn't fashion

A few days ago I was exploring the blogger world and came across a post in which the blogger was declaring their love for fur, dismissing the cruelty which surrounds the creation of fur items by stating that hundreds of animals get slaughtered anyway. It's this kind of attitude that fires me up, the I'm one person so it doesn't really make a difference if I do something bad opinion, don't those people stop and think what it would be like if everyone thought like that?
I don't even get why people wear fur in today's society. It's definitely not for warmth, seeing as we aren't cavemen and have numerous other options for warmth that don't involve slaughter. It's not to reflect wealth, because again there are hundreds of other ways to do so. Is it as simple as style? Well if thats the case there are great fake furs out there. And when it comes down to it what you wear one the outside, to a degree, reflects your personality, opinions and attitudes. Do you really want to reflect to the world that your ok with animals being slaughtered in gruesome ways for superficial reasons?

To be honest I don't watch her show, nor do I follow whats happening in her life, however her recent visit to Australia caused such a commotion everywhere she went that I thought a post featuring KK would be appropriate. As you can see from these images she dresses to accentuate her, eh hum, assets preferring a-line skirts and dresses. And you know she has style after it was rumoured that she dropped $1000 at Sass & Bide during her visit.

Again I hope fashion bloggers are inspired from this post on how to grow their own blog, and for non bloggers you get a little insight into the workings of a fashion blogger (and see our motivation isn't freebies and hopes of fame). Thanks again to La Societe de Mode, Obsession Isnt Just a Perfume, Fashion Whore and The Sydney Girl for taking part. What has kept you fashion blogging?

Karen: I have a great love for beauty and fashion. The word "obsession" is in my blog name for a reason. For as long as I can remember I've had a passion for the transformation that comes from using makeup and clothing to express yourself. It makes me happy to share all of my beauty and fashion discoveries with people. I love reading peoples comments on my posts.

Neesha: My readers

How did you build your fellowship?

Karen: One of the most important ways I have built my fellowship is by becoming friends with other fashion and beauty bloggers. they have been an incredible source of inspiration and support.

Neesha: I visit comment and follow blogs i like and if they like my blog then they'll follow it

What do you think makes your fashion blog unique?

Karen: I think my blog is unique because it is a true expression of myself. Because I am in complete control of all my content I choose to post only the things that move me and that I have a great love for. All my preferences and quirks are there for the world to see and I don't hold back.

Neesha: I blog about things i want to blog about [not what everyone is talking about, and if i do i put my own spin to it] and i just have fun with it.

You have ads/sponsors on your blog, how did this come about? Also would you recommend monetising to other fashion bloggers?

Karen: My affiliation with Shopsense came about while I was searching for images to share with my readers. I chose them because they have such a huge range of products that I could always find what I wanted to share with my followers. I think the one thing I'd tell other bloggers as far as monetising goes is that it is not a huge source of income unless you have a huge following. I chose to do it because these were the products and fashions I was sharing with my readers anyway so why not give them a way to purchase the itEms they have read about on my site immediately.

Your style Inspirations?

Karen: There are so many it would be difficult to choose. All I can say is stay tuned to my blog for my latest inspirations because they are always changing but if I had to choose an inspiration that is most enduring I would choose an era rather than a designer. The Sixties, for me, is the era that modern glamor was born. The clothing, the makeup and the hair are are all just as fabulous and modern looking today as they were in their own time.

And finally any tips for fellow fashion bloggers?

Karen: The smartest thing I have done for myself and my blog was join the Internet Fashion Bloggers site. I don't think my blog would be what it is today without them. Overnight I became a part of a fashion blogger community I was previously unaware of. That really helps you get through the times when you are unsure or uninspired.Through their site I was also able to learn how to take my beginner blog and turn it in to something more professional. The site seems to answer every question I have about blogging an I highly recommend it! The other thing is just to be patient. I have to tell myself that every day. Great blogs were not built overnight. There is so much hard work that goes in to making them great and that takes time but if the love for it is there then it's all worth it!

Neesha: The key to getting your blog out there [Getting more followers..etc] is to communicate with other bloggers comment, follow etc and also have fun with it.

I just wanted to finish my spotlight on bloggers by putting in my two cents. I agree with all the featured blogs have said, for your blog to grow you have to get our there. You get back what you give, so get involved in the blogging community. The best advice I can give to a fashion blogger is join Independent Fashion Bloggers, there you will learn everything and anything fashion blogging and discover some great blogs.
